Can you make friends playing online casino games? According to a recent study online gaming can actually foster great friendships. The report doesn’t necessarily deal with online casino games. Instead, it looked at teens aged 13 to 17 playing online video games. But the study, and its results, could translate to the casino industry. More on that in a sec. First, the report.
The major study from the Pew Research Center called “Teens, Technology, and Friendship” looked at teens playing video games. The report concluded that video gaming itself isn’t necessarily just about beating a game. It’s even more so about connecting with friends online.
According to the study, 78% of online gamers agree that playing with friends over the Internet has actually made their relationships closer and perhaps stronger. This runs contrary to the popular notion that playing video games online isolates you from the world.
There is a strong held view that playing video games is all about sitting in a basement with the door closed and not socializing with people. But the study says that couldn’t be further from the truth.
So how does this translate to online casino games? After all, when you play slots and table games from home, you aren’t necessarily playing with people. You’re playing against the house. But that might not be entirely true.
For example, playing multi-player roulette involves betting alongside other players at the table. And playing live dealer casino games involves interacting with a real dealer. Couple this with the many online casino communities you’ll find on Facebook and it’s clear that online casino games actually bring people together.
Take the Slots of Vegas Facebook page for example. We’ve heard about lots of cases involving new friendships being forged online between Slots of Vegas players who discover that they live nearby. These people might never have connected if it weren’t for Slots of Vegas.
For those who still believe that online casino games isolate people, just look to the future. Even if you’re convinced that online casino games is a lonely experience (and it clearly isn’t), it’s only a matter of time before online gambling becomes even more social. After all, as all those teenagers who love to play video games on the Internet with friends grow up, they’ll expect an equally social experience in the online gambling world.
