Many Americans await the outcome of certain laws in their states to find out if they will be able to gamble online legally and without hassle.
Most Americans can still play online on certain states, but the choices are slim compared to what they once were. Not to mention the stigma the government has placed on the gambling community as of late.
There is some good news and bright spot on the horizon however.
Online poker has already been made legal by some states: Nevada, New Jersey and Delaware among others are paving the way for online poker. Nevada already the first legalized poker room online and launched a few months back. This is great news for everyone, not just poker players.
The main set back is the past. With the closure of sites like Full Tilt and Poker Stars back on Black Friday, the news that some of these sites did not have all players funds in tact was a bit concerning.
This has left a slur taste in some legislator’s mouths and leaves the question as to whether or not they will do the same once they are allowed back in the states, if they are allowed back is a better way to put that.
Poker Stars has sought to buy a land based casino in New Jersey with the hopes of setting up shop online as well. The law in New Jersey and most other states who made online poker legal was that they needed to be a licensed casino.
The roadblocks have been many for the purchase as those who are the ones to approve this purchase cant help but to look at the past and the errors of other sites.
Poker Stars was on the up and up for the most part and runs a clean ship as of now and has been one of the most respected poker sites for a long time, but it’s still hard to look past the catastrophe that was Full Tilt and Ultimate Bet.
One thing is certain, states need money and gambling is a way to get that revenue. According to some estimates, over $160 million in tax money could be had from online gambling alone. That’s a much needed boost to economies in default.
That’s the one thing online gambling has going for, and it will likely be its path finally be fully approved. People love to gamble and will do so even in a bad economy. Governments like money and gambling is one of those sure things that they won’t pass up on.
