It’s official. The 2015 World Series of Poker is now underway at the Rio in Las Vegas. If you haven’t heard much about it, you will. The tournament series runs until July 14th and includes 68 big events. The Main Event doesn’t kick off until July 5th, but there are plenty of big games in the mix worth playing.
If you’re thinking about making your way to Sin City to be a part of the action, there are a few things you should know. We’ve highlighted some of the most important ones below.
Be prepared for bathroom lineups
The Rio is big, and it definitely has a lot of toilets. But when you cram thousands of players into one room at one time, you’ll be asking yourself why they built the Rio with so few bathrooms. If you’re playing during the Main Event or even during any event with thousands of players seated at one time, you’ll need to be prepared to wait in line to use the bathroom. But don’t assume that the permanent toilets are your only option. There are actually some portable toilets outside, just beyond the Amazon room, that are pretty high quality. We’re not talking those stinky portable toilets you see at construction sites. We’re talking decent toilets, so don’t’ discount them.
Bring a sweater…and a tank top
It might be 110 degrees outside. And then inside, it’s a cool 72. But when you step onto the tournament floor, you don’t know what you’re going to get. That’s because the temperature in the tournament room can fluctuate based on how many people are sitting down. If we’re talking about 200 people, expect the room to remain cool. But that might not be the case with 4,000 people jammed into one spot. Or it hasn’t been in years past. Last year, however, they cranked the temperature a lot when the room was packed, so you might need a sweater. Or you might not. Bottom line, the weather is never predictable.
Be prepared to stand in line…again
You waited in line to go through airport security. You waited in line to board your plane. You waited in line for your luggage. And you waited in line to grab a cab to your Vegas hotel. But when you get to the WSOP, it should be as easy as sitting down and playing, right? Wrong. You’re used to waiting in line, so you might as well wait in line again. And you’re going to have to during registration. You could wait hours just to register, so please be patient.
These are just a few tips to help you prepare for the World Series of Poker. Of course, none of these tips actually have to do with playing poker, so make sure you practice first. If you want to brush up on your bluffing skills, fire up Slots of Vegas and play some video poker. At the very least, it’ll get you in the mood for the World Series of Poker. And don’t forget, you can play Slots of Vegas on your smartphone. That’ll come in handy when you’re waiting in line for the bathroom.
