Sin City is a mystery wrapped up in an enigma. Everything you know about the world’s most iconic gambling destination in the desert is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the wild and crazy past, present and future of Las Vegas. While the heart and soul of any trip to Vegas is squarely within the limits of the world-famous Strip, there’s plenty of adventures to tap in to before hopping on your plane and heading back to the real world. Need some ideas? Let’s take a look at the top five things about Sin City that you probably don’t know.
The Lion Tamer: Ever wonder where all the lions go when there’s no show going on? Do yourself a favor and schedule a tour of the Lion Habitat Ranch, which is located just 10 minutes from the Strip. In total, they’ve got more than 45 lions on their seven-acre property, and you’ll get a chance to get up close and personal with a few of them. Want the full experience? Ask about the Trainer-for-a-Day program, and let your inner-zookeeper run wild.
Take a Trip Back in Time: Back in the 1920’s, prohibition was getting in the way of some seriously good times. Despite the laws, some ambitious partiers demand libations, and underground booze halls were born. Gaining entry to a prohibition-era speakeasy was all about who you knew and how discreet you were able to be. Want to get a feel for the mystery? There’s a secret backroom of the Commonwealth cocktail bar in Las Vegas with 28-seats and more vintage environment than you’ll be able to shake a stick at. In order to get in, you’ll need to make a reservation by texting a secret number. What’s the number? You’ll need to ask around!
Get Localized: Want to see Sin City like the locals see it? Check out the First Friday Las Vegas downtown event. This festival happens every month and comes complete with delicious food trucks, creative crafts, artwork and a healthy supply of locals to make you feel right at home.
With the Fishes: Take a peek behind the scenes of the Mandalay Bay Shark Reef Aquarium with their Animal Encounters Program. It can be a lot of fun to see the hard work and dedication that goes in to keeping the aquarium’s sharks, stingrays and sea turtles happy and healthy. The Shark Reef Aquarium has 14 breathtaking exhibits devoted to some of the world’s most dangerous aquatic predators, including a 1.3 million gallon shipwreck where visitors can enjoy near 360-degree views of sharks.
Zip Line through Bootleg Canyon: Experience the desert the same way the birds do by reserving a day of zip lining in Bootleg Canyon. The course includes a full mile and a half of high speed action with chances to reach around 60 miles an hour while dangling over a canyon. Can you say adrenaline?
Now that you know a few of Las Vegas’s best kept secrets, you’re ready to take your vacation to the next level. Enjoy the drinks, animals and adventure, then get back to the casino for some more gambling fun!
